Muriel Rukeyser’s “The Middle of the Air”: A Critical Edition {forthcoming}

The first publication of Muriel Rukeyser’s lost antifascist play, The Middle of the Air (1945). This recovery edition includes a critical introduction, an essay about the play’s composition and long revision history and other editorial apparatuses, two scene variants, and Rukeyser’s lost short story “The Lights of Summer” (1950), about the only production of her play. Available in Spring 2027.
